California’s NEW Mandatory Workplace Violence Prevention Plan was adopted and implemented July 1, 2024.  California Senate Bill 553 (SB 553) includes Labor Code Section 6401.9 mandates that virtually all California employers (in General Industry (Non-Health Care Settings) develop and implement a written workplace violence prevention plan (WVPP).

• Employer-specific workplace violence hazards
• How to report workplace violence concerns
• Employer-specific procedures for investigating workplace violence concerns and incidents
• De-escalation techniques
• What to do if workplace violence occurs
• Required workplace violence incident log
• Employer-specific emergency procedures
• Review of key elements of the employer’s workplace violence plan, obtaining a copy,
• And the definitions and requirements under the Labor Code.

Training Frequency: Employers must provide initial and annual training.
