This course is intended for workers who need to refresh an existing 24 or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.

Only some workers require 24 hours of training. Workers on site only occasionally for a specific limited task and are unlikely to be exposed over permissible/ published exposure limits, and where respirators are not necessary, and there are no health hazards or the possibility of an emergency developing, shall receive a minimum of 24 hours of instruction off the site.

This 40 hour is designed to address general site workers, which usually addresses job tasks that include general laborers, supervisory personnel, equipment operators who require 40 hours of training. These workers are typically engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities which expose or potentially expose workers to hazardous substances and health hazards at or above the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL).

Introduction; Regulatory Overview; Site Characterization and Control, Hazard Recognition including Biological, Radiological, & Meteorological, Heat Stress; Hazard Communication; Chemical Safety; Fire Chemistry and Fire Protection; Toxicology; Ionizing Radiation; Medical Surveillance; Chemical Protective Clothing; Decontamination; Emergency Response using the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG); NIOSH, Final Exam.
Prerequisite: If student is required to don a tight-fitting respirator, respiratory fit testing is required.

First Responder Awareness is a training program designed to equip responders who may be the initial observers of a hazardous substance release. These responders will be given the essential knowledge and skills to properly initiate an emergency response and notify the correct parties through a designated chain of communication, and must be able to demonstrate awareness, accurate identification and recognition of hazards, understand risks and potential outcomes, and their role in an emergency response plan.
